It's been years since I traveled through my home state of Gujarat. The last long road trip was when I was sixteen and my father took us through Kathiyavad, to get to know it better. What a coincidence that fate took me and my now sixteen-year-old daughter through the same region. All these years later, this trip was only possible because of the unwavering enthusiasm of my magnanimous mother.
So many of us have migrated to different parts of the world, and as a result, our young people are growing up without truly knowing their heritage. This trip was in many ways for me to be reminded of the heritage and for my daughter to be able to see and experience her family heritage, meet some of our relatives and experience the regional foods.
