THE ART
The Vietnamese lunar calendar uniquely celebrates the Year of the Cat, in contrast to the Chinese and other related zodiacs which mark the Year of the Rabbit. Created during the artist's time in Vietnam, this surreal depiction of a joyful cat is prominently placed among iconic Vietnamese landmarks. The cat towers as high as Saigon’s Notre Dame Cathedral, the contemporary Landmark 81 Tower, and a typical streetscape scene from the ancient town of Hoi An. This composition not only honors Vietnamese cultural symbolism but also bridges historical heritage with the dynamism of modern and traditional urban landscapes.
THE TECHNIQUE
The original sketch was meticulously created with pencil and fine liners on paper, before being digitally coloured.
